Steve
Jobs succumbed to cancer. He was one of the richest in the world. He
left his empire, and loved ones - money could not make him live another
day.
A 2 year old kid and a 50 year old lady in my neighborhood are diagnosed with cancer.
They are on treatment. I wish them good health.
While everyone in a state of shock, it reminds me, life is short - really short.
When you meet someone with cancer, do not try to share the pain. He’s already in pain. He does not need you also in pain. He needs to release his pain.
You can try to make him smile.
I remember the days, I used to visit my mother’s sister, who had just been amputated by diabetes. I meet her with all smiles and make her laugh. I did the same for other patients in the ward. Doctors did not like me first, but I made them laugh too.! Few days later, patients would share their funny stories with me. They were waiting for me to come - not for food - but for laughs.
As I said, life is short. It is the truth. You and I may never know - whether we may get cancer, or (I wish) not. But don’t live like you are bullet proof. Live each day as if it is your last.

Thanks for finding a away to bring happiness where its rare
Cancer is the most dreadful disease on this earth, perhaps together with HIV. I've lost two of my aunts because of Cancer and have undergone and seen the trauma and agony a person & his/her loved ones go through. I often passby the Cancer Hospital in maharagama and just wonder the mental state those hundreds of thousands of people (visitors) might be in, while they come and go to see and attend to their friend/relative. Yes, I have been involved in donations to the hospital but as I understand these people badly need encouragement. Encouragement to face the remainder of their lives which has been numbered.
We need to find ways to give them hope, to live and accomodate them in society. The same applies to HIV victims. Yes, they are victims! I'm a firm beleiver that they need not suffer from such a terrible disease for a mistake performed on intrinsic human nature. We need ways to up-them. We should change our mindsets to accomodate them in our society and not to look down at them or their relatives.
This is really what will make us humane humans.
"When you meet someone with cancer, do not try to share the pain."
This is real true factor.Thank you very much for reminding it.
Hi Udendra,
This is a reply long over due, yet relevant in the context of my life, as at now.
You are spot on. It is rare to see where we see energy injected to hospitals. We only have lots of lots of medical injections. One of my friend, who counsels cancer patients said, in her opinion, the prominent issue for a cancer patient is the immediate impediment of economic crunch. Lots to think.
I like to hear more thoughts on this line...
Thanks

economic crunch, for some. bcos although you may be able to 'afford' it, still it's not guaranteed recovery. But I must add here that there was one of my mom's friends who came through leukemia after a very costly & taxing process in the UK. that also was possible since she had a matching donor.
The financial situ sets in other ways as you could see. especially if he/she is the family's bread winner. I think this too adds to the patient's psychological condition. then It's really a mess. This alone could kill or expedite or worsen the suffering of a patient. so it's a two-fold process. counselling the patient & looking after his/her financial needs if/when in need.
And as the Buddha once preached: "Health is the highest gain. Contentment is the highest wealth." In this context Contentment is Happiness.
