See the man sitting across the road in this picture?
I see him most of the days, around colour lights, where W.A.Silva mawatha turns to Galle road at Wellawatte.
I took this picture, waiting in traffic.
He sits there, not moving, no emotions in his face.
A pedestrian gives an occasional look & traffic moves through unbearable heat and sound.
What ever the chaos, he's oblivious to this world.
I don't know his story, but he teaches me one thing.
Life is a bubble, it can happen to anyone.
He makes me think about my life, my day, my time and my mind.
He makes me think calmly, to be responsible, in my thoughts and action.
It can happen to any one, I owe him for his message.
Then on Asela poya day, a similar experience to mine, had been captured on "sansare piya satahan". It's a 25 minute one episode SIMPLE teledrama, which captures essence of humanity. It airs on Jathika Rupavahini every poyaday at 0725 PM.
I loved this program from 1994, but missed it badly, till this episode.
It is one of the very few programs on Sri Lankan television, that deserves credit for authenticity and creativity. Even after all these years, it still inspires me.
Hats off to Mr.Ananda Abeynayake, the Director.
Those days Maliban used to be the sponsor, these days it is Sampath Bank.
A big thank you to both.

I really like the idea of the bubble man especially as it contrasts so well with traffic reflected in the side mirror! A insight perhaps to the quandary of modernity – being caught in between our desire to find quiet reflection and authenticity (afforded to the ‘man in the bubble’ on the pavement) and our inability to give up the air conditioned comforts of modernity even though they imprison us in endless traffic jams!
Thanks Isura , the man in the bubble and the insightful photo both have rich metaphorical potential for spiritual contemplation!
Sanjaya, thanks for the insightful comment.
Yes, writing this post it self, was a worthy contemplation.
Udendra Geeganage has shared a nice story in my Google+ profile, commenting on this post.
Here I quote it.
this just reminded me of an incident which happened some 11 yrs ago when I was doing my A/Ls. Me and a friend were at the ward place bus halt in the morning on our way to school when we saw a similar-looking begger man lying on the pavement. No one took notice of him, but when we closely inspected him, we saw that he was soaked with blood and the blood had solidifed onto his body - most probably he was hit by a vehicle the previous night and was very weak. The man was left on the pavement like a injured dog! Me and my friend tried stopping a vehicle to take the patient to the General Hospital which is apparently only a stone's throw away. However one kind 3-wheel driver stopped, and we managed to get him into the 3-wheel not bothering about our white clothes either. thereafter, we rushed the injured person to the accident service - on a trolly from the gate - and gave a statement to the hospital police as well. We were late to school and as I remember, for the mid-year Term test too, but nothing serious. Just goes to show how some people value life!
